Seized car to boost trauma fund
A Holden Senator seized after its 22-year-old driver was caught doing 182km/h in a 110km/h zone is expected to inject more than $30,000 into the road trauma trust account.
The driver was nabbed by a state of the art traffic car while driving in Whim Creek in March this year.
He had four passengers in the car at the time.
It was the 22-year-old's third hoon offence with previous charges dating back to 2009 and 2011.
This year 1038 vehicles have been impounded by police for hoon offences.
Police Minister Liza Harvey said the driver was "really lucky" that police had stopped the driver instead of a horrible crash.
She said the vehicle was expected to fetch between $30,000 and $35,000 at auction later this month.
"This is a really strong message that we are sending out the community in Western Australian, third hoon offence, if you've got a really nice vehicle we will sell it, we will take it from you and we will use that money for road safety initiatives in Western Australia," she said.
