Western Australia’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPRIRD) described the behaviour as “not acceptable”.

The department has launched an investigation to find the fisherman who filmed the incident.

“Fishers, both commercial and recreational, should act responsibly at all times,” a DPRIRD spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia on Saturday.

“This includes making themselves aware of and fishing within the rules that apply, as well as treating any fish that is either kept or to be released in a humane way.”

The department said it would examine the video as it investigated where and when the incident occurred and who was involved.
