Two-year-old girl's eyesight ruined by mobile phone addiction

Parents of a two-year-old girl were shocked to discover their little girl’s smartphone addiction permanently damaged her eyesight.

The toddler reportedly started watching shows on a mobile device from about 12 months old, usually for long periods of time, according to Chinese media.

Her parents did not restrict Xiao’s screen time, saying it helped keep her quiet when she was misbehaving, the reports claim.

The couple noticed their toddler was struggling to see properly, squinting, and rubbing her eyes while using a mobile phone.

At just two years old, Xiao was diagnosed with severe myopia, or short-sightedness.

The excessive use of electronic devices had caused irreversible damage, doctors at the city’s children’s hospital discovered.

The girl’s parents were warned the child’s eyesight could get even worse as she grows up.

Screen time not advised for children under two

The Sydney Children’s Hospital said screen time was not recommended at all for children under two years old, according to the hospital’s website.

Doctors advised that children aged 2-5 do not use electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, TVs, computers, and video consoles, for more than two hours per day.
