School bus driver in court after 'testing positive to drugs'

A school bus driver who allegedly failed a drug test after dropping children off in Western Australia says she has not done anything wrong.

Janine Helen Lawton appeared in Northam Court on Monday after she tested positive for allegedly being under the influence of cannabis.

Police said the 48-year-old was tested at approximately 8.45am on the morning of February 24, after she had dropped a bus-load of children to a Dalwallinu school in the Wheatbelt, east of Perth.

She allegedly failed a preliminary test and was taken to the local police station for an evidentiary test.

The test allegedly confirmed Ms Lawton was under the influence of cannabis.

Speaking outside court on Monday, she said, “I don't need to say sorry because I didn't do anything wrong”.

She is due to return to court in June.
