Security intensifies as Schapelle Corby prepares to leave Bali
With just days until Schapelle Corby makes her long-awaited return home after more than a decade behind bars, security is intensifying as media and public interest in her case is reignited.
Corby – who was arrested in 2004 for attempting to smuggle 4.1 kilograms of marijuana into Bali - has spent close to 13 years in the country, nine of which were in Kerobokan Prison and more than three years on parole.
With less than five days until she sets foot on Australian soil once again, protection expert and former police officer John McLeod has flown from Brisbane to Bali and is responsible for escorting the 39-year-old home.
Parole and immigration officials have met and tried to nut out how Corby’s deportation will unfold.
In the last few days officials have expressed their relief that Corby will be leaving, with her long-time parole officer Ni Ketut Sukiati saying they’re tired of the attention.
“Please no more foreigners like this. We’re tired. Please just one Corby,” she said.
The former Gold Coast woman is also said to be tired of the increasing attention around her villa in Kuta.
Corby will leave Bali this Saturday with the next challenging chapter of her life settling back into her home country.
