Update on ‘axe-wielding woman’ after crash
A woman has been charged after allegedly wielding an axe as rescue crews tried to extract her from a crash scene in Adelaide.
Just before 11pm on Friday, emergency services were called to Goodwood Road near Rosa Street after reports that a black Holden station wagon had crashed and rolled on to its side.
She has since been charged with driving without due care, carrying an offensive weapon and assaulting an emergency services worker.
Police say a 33-year-old woman behind the wheel of the car allegedly threatened emergency service workers with an axe.
Photos from the scene show a woman with her torso halfway outside of the driver seat window, with an axe gripped in her right hand.
She eventually dropped the weapon and was helped out of the car.
No one else was inside the car.
The woman was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment and a mental health assessment.
She is bailed and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 24 July.
