Saskatoon mother charged with criminal negligence after baby dies in bathtub

A 42-year-old Saskatoon woman is charged with criminal negligence causing death after her one-year-old son died Saturday,

Officers were called to a building on the 100 block of Avenue T South at 11:23 a.m. CST on March 9 regarding a sudden death, police said in a news release.

Melanie O'Soup appeared briefly in provincial court Monday. Court heard that the charge of criminal negligence causing death related to the allegation that she fell asleep in the bathtub with her one-year-old son and that the baby died.

O'Soup will stay in custody until her next appearance on Wednesday.
