Fury in Adelaide court as pedophile appears after toddler's hit and run death

There were explosive scenes in Adelaide Magistrates Court as a convicted pedophile appeared, charged over the hit-and-run death of a two-year-old Dover Gardens boy.

Michael Craig Bullock is charged over the death of little Zane Colson, who was struck outside his home at 8pm on Sunday.

Emotions spilled over inside and outside the courtroom on Monday as the child’s grandfather leapt to his feet threatening to kill the accused if he was released.

“Tyres screeching and then that was followed pretty closely by some screaming and hysterics,” neighbour Alexander Buick said.

Zane’s mother raced to the scene to hold him as neighbours tried desperately to save him.

Another neighbour, Adrian Charlton, said he and his wife gave the little boy CPR for about 10 minutes until police arrived.

Bullock lives just a few hours from the little boy, and was jailed in 2004 for raping a six-year-old girl.

“It’s disgusting – that guy should never have been on the street,” neighbour Graham Brady said.

Some neighbours questioned why little Zane, who is a twin, was out on the road.

Zane’s mother Chantelle and father Dennis released a heartbreaking statement about their "cheeky boy with a warrior spirit".

Bullock was remanded in custody and will face court again on Friday, with a home detention report to be considered.
