'No one was injured': Port Adelaide defends handling of Impey hit and run
Port Adelaide has defended its decision to take Jarman Impey to a police station 16-hours after a hit and run crash.
The Power is yet to announce what penalty was slapped on him today, but team officials conceded they gave the besieged player legal advice before he handed himself in.
Impey joined his teammates for a training session at Alberton before meeting with club officials a few hours later.
“I made my comments last night, so I’ll just leave it at that thanks," the 21-year-old told reporters.
It’s alleged he crashed his car into four other vehicles and fled the scene after leaving a party at fellow player Angus Monfries’ Norwood home on Saturday night.
Police couldn’t find Impey and it wasn’t until a club official took him to a police station with a lawyer some 16 hours later that officers were able to interview him.
“We were talking to Jarman well after midnight last night and so the decision was made that we would front up in the morning,” Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas said.
“Our standard procedure is that if something happens you ring the club, straight away so we can deal with it.
“As a club we are comfortable with the process we undertook on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
"We ascertained that no one was injured and that Jarman was safe and well, we then provided him with legal advice.”
Meanwhile, it was business as usual for head coach Ken Hinkley who told 7 News “we’ve got things to work through”.
Police aren’t looking into whether the club impeded the investigation and Impey is due to front court next year.
