Rita Ora feels like a 'fairy godmother' to Taika Waititi's children
Rita Ora feels like a "fairy godmother" as the stepmother of husband Taika Waititi's two children.
The 'Ask and You Shall Receive' singer became a stepparent to Kāinga o te Hinekāhu, 11, and seven-year-old Matewa Kiritapu - whom the filmmaker has with his ex-wife Chelsea Wistanley - and she loves being the one with no "responsibility" who can just have fun with her stepchildren.
Speaking on Jessie and Lennie Ware's 'Table Manners' podcast, she said of being a stepmother: "Oh, I love it. It just feels really cool because it's like, um, I'm just the fairy godmother that doesn't actually really have any responsibility."
The 33-year-old pop star - who secretly tied the knot with Hollywood director Taika Waititi , 48, in August 2022 - says living in New Zealand is a "game changer" and it feels like a "home away from home".
She shared:"You know, half of my family and his kids go to school in New Zealand and so, yeah, we're always there. Auckland, we have a place literally on the water. It's really nice. I feel like New Zealand is obviously so far, if you make an effort together, it’s a game changer.
"I've done The Voice there obviously for a few years and so, I've been there like a big, big, chunk out of my year. I haven't done it now - I mean, I didn't do it last year now but yeah, it's like a home away from home for me. I had really liked Australia and then obviously that's where I met my husband."
On the moment, they "clicked", the 'I Will Never Let You Down' singer added: "It was in Sydney. I was doing The Voice and he was filming Thor Ragnarok and it just yeah, that's just where we kind of clicked."
Rita froze her eggs on her doctor's advice so that if she has to delay having a baby she has a back-up.
The 'Anywhere' singer previously shared she wants to eventually have a big family.
In an interview on Australian TV show 'Sunshine', she said: "Me being 27 soon, I thought about this when I was in my early 20s, about kids. Maybe that is me being a hypochondriac, but I have always wanted a big family and my doctor asked me, 'I think you should freeze your eggs when I was in my early 20s', that is what he said to me ... He has been my family doctor for a long time and he said you are healthy is now and it would be great, why not put them away and then you never have to worry about it again?"
Rita admitted she wanted to be "safe" and accepts that some people might think she was "crazy".
She added: "I think it depends on people's beliefs and I'm a big believer in using what we have in making the most of it. I have never said that on TV, and I'm 26 so I know people might say, 'Wow, that's so young'. I just wanted to really be safe. Maybe that is me being crazy."
Rita’s’ brand new track ‘Ask and You Shall Receive’ is available on all streaming platforms now.
