Revealed: The luckiest and unluckiest Powerball numbers

In the build-up to a massive $50 million Powerball draw, new research has revealed the numbers most likely to be drawn as well as the ones you might consider avoiding.

While Powerball is a random game of chance and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, new data has revealed the “hot” and “cold” numbers drawn during the past seven draws since the new game matrix was introduced.

For the main barrel, where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35, the “hot” number, as identified in the information released by Powerball, is nine, having been drawn four times in the past seven draws.

The previous matrix, which changed in April, required players to match six balls from 40 in the main barrel.

The numbers 14, 19, 24, 25 and 32 have each been drawn during three of the past seven draws.

At the same time there are seven numbers that have not been drawn a single time during the past seven draws.

The numbers 7, 10, 11, 17, 21, 22 and 28 have yet to be seen since the new matrix was introduced.

For the separate Powerball barrel, the draw has been far more scattered, with seven different numbers drawn in as many draws coming from the Powerball numbers one to 20.

Powerball spokesperson Matt Hart said players now faced a dilemma over which numbers to now side with.

“The big question is – do you choose hot numbers in the hope that they live up to their reputation of being most frequently drawn, or do you opt for the cold numbers believing they’re now more likely to be drawn?” he said.

Thursday’s giant Powerball prize is the second highest Australian jackpot offered this year, only beaten by the $55 million Powerball draw held in January this year.

So far this year, nine entries have taken home $121 million in Powerball division one prize money.

Mr Hart expects one in five Australians to enter Thursday’s draw, with the huge prize too much of a temptation to miss for many.

“It’s fair to say, everyone wants the chance to win this life-changing prize,” he said.

The company which runs Powerball, The Lott has said its division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 169 so far this calendar year.
