Revealed: The cut-off dates to send your parcels in time for Christmas

Regardless of how well you plan your festive period, there will always be a little bit of last minute shopping.

Whether it be a deadline dash to the supermarket or that distant relative you forgot to buy a present for, stores across the nation will be catering to the needs of those forgetful few right up until December 25.

But Australia Post’s group chief operating officer Bob Black has warned that if you’re wanting to send your gifts and cards by mail, make sure you leave plenty of time to do so.

“If you’re sending within Australia using regular mail, post your Christmas gifts before Monday, December 17,” he told news.com.au.

And for those who miss that date, their only option is to fork out for express post which will have a cut-off date of December 21.

Mr Black warned to check first when using this service with about 9 million homes eligible for express post.

For those sending parcels internationally, all mail should be with Australia Post by December 12 for standard post and December 17 for express post.

Mr Black also warned getting your parcels in on time isn’t the only thing to ensure to avoid disappointment.

“When sending your gifts, make sure you use enough padding, that your recipient’s address is bold and clear, and you have included your return details,” he said.

And while the majority of items on Christmas wishlists are suitable for delivery, a handful of gifts are prohibited domestically and internationally.
