Restaurant worker's touching act for little boy facing brain surgery

A restaurant worker’s touching act for a little boy facing brain cancer has gone viral.

Tommy Gallagher, eight, was dining at a restaurant with his family in Ohio, US, when they were served by waiter Drew Lewis.

Mr Lewis chatted with the kids and soon learned that Tommy was having brain surgery to stop life threatening seizures in a few days and decided to sit with the little boy to talk through the operation.

Tommy asked Mr Lewis to visit him in hospital, but did not expect the kindness that was to come.

Mr Lewis, who is also studying to be a police officer, visited Tommy in hospital and waited with his parents for 6.5 hours during the surgery.

Tommy’s mum Krista Gallagher shared the heartwarming story on social media.

“He talked with us, calmed us, took our mind off things and got to know us and our friends,” Ms Gallagher posted on Facebook on Friday.

“Turns out he’s a lot like Tommy, really Tommy’s soul twin!

“He stood in that ICU waiting for Tommy to open his eyes so he could fulfil his promise to an 8 year old boy he did not know.”

Mr Lewis brought a card which was signed by his entire class at the police academy, along with a police t-shirt.

It’s a great amazing story of true pure honest good people,” Ms Gallagher wrote.

“There are still amazing people in this world and Drew is one of the few!”
