A crime scene has been established after an alleged drug lab exploded overnight.

NSW Police and firefighters scrambled to a Chester Hill property on Wednesday at 1.15am on Wednesday, when Curtis Road residents heard a blast from the rear of the home.

There was no blaze to extinguish upon their arrival, instead a heavy acetone chemical smell and the remains of an underground drug lab.

A hazardous material team has been dispatched.

As reported by Channel 9, police suspect a resident may have been injured in the explosion and since fled the scene.

“Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command, with assistance from NSW Fire & Rescue, located a clandestine drug lab,” a police statement reads.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the incident has commenced.

“Anyone with information urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
