Automatic doors confuse, trap Melbourne robber

Security footage has surfaced of a bungling robber who became trapped in a Melbourne service station when he had trouble opening the automatic doors.

The video shows the thief wearing a face covering when he entered the Reservoir store, north of the city, about 8.30pm on September 20.

Investigators were told the man was unable to gain entry into the shop until he removed the mask, so his face became visible to the staff member inside.

Armed with scissors, the crook jumped the counter and stole cash and cigarettes.

As he fled, the front doors failed to open and the offender spent several minutes in full view of CCTV cameras trying to activate them.

He then tried to smash the front doors before finally discovering the green door exit button.
