The racist reason a customer refused to be served causes outrage

A mother has slammed a clothing chain after claiming a customer’s racist rant led to preferential treatment.

Donna Guthrie, 47, says her daughter was shopping at a Primark store in Westfield Stratford City, London, when she heard the outburst over the ethnicity of the cashiers, the Newham Recorder reported.

“’I don’t want to be served by a black person, they are dirty,'” Ms Guthrie said her 28-year-old daughter recalled the female customer saying as she waited in line on Monday afternoon.

She claims the woman then targeted a black male cashier, leading to unrest from fellow customers, angered she had not been removed from the store.

Ms Guthrie’s daughter told her the majority of staff and customers queuing to be served were black.

According to Ms Guthrie, a white manager then appeared, telling the woman: “I understand, but there are different ways of saying things.”

She claims the woman was then escorted to the front of the line and served by the manager.

Ms Guthrie took to Facebook to share the incident and lodged an complaint via email on Tuesday.

In a statement sent to the Newham Recorder, Primark denied the incident occurred, insisting racism was not tolerated in their stores.

“We have investigated this allegation, which included speaking to all employees involved, and found no evidence of any racist comments made in our Westfield Stratford store.”

After facing criticism online that they hadn’t spoken to customers during their investigations, the store released a follow-up statement.

“The customer was not moved as a result of her alleged racist comments, because our employees were unaware of them,” Primark noted.
