Ambulance forced to stop mid-emergency after teen throws rock at windscreen

Queensland Ambulance Service has slammed a “moronic" teen for throwing a rock at an ambulance’s windscreen on the way to an emergency call.

QAS spokesman Michael Augustus said paramedics were responding to a call at Gaven on the Gold Coast on Saturday about 12.35pm when someone threw a rock from an overpass on the M1 at the windshield of an ambulance.

He’s also shared an image of the damage on Facebook. According to News Corp it had to be immediately taken off the road and another ambulance had to be dispatched.

“Thankfully our crew is OK and uninjured,” Mr Augustus said.

“Besides the obvious consequences this idiotic act could have caused, there may well have been a delay in getting to what could have been a life-threatening case.”

He added there was “no detriment” to the person they were attending.

“Besides from the obvious consequences this idiotic act could have caused, there may well have been a delay in getting to what could’ve been a life-threatening case,” Mr Augustus said.

“Let’s hope the individual responsible takes a moment to think, it could have been one of their loved ones our crew was attending.”

The ambulance’s windshield is expected to be repaired on Monday meaning it will have been off the road for more than 24 hours, Fairfax reports.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said it's believed a teenage boy threw rocks from the overpass but on conducting patrols of the overpass "the person of interest was gone".

Mr Augustus has encouraged anyone with information to contact Queensland Ambulance Service or police.
