Driver shouts at pack of cyclists who refuse to move into bike lane - but who is in the wrong?

Cyclists have been filmed riding on a one-way street on the Gold Coast despite having a cycling lane next to them.

Dashcam footage shot by Gold Coast carpenter Matt Dennis shows the group riding on the road on Hedges Avenue, Broadbeach on Wednesday about 5.30am.

Mr Dennis drives up behind the group of four and honks his horn.

“Get in the cycling lane, guys," he says.

Two acknowledge him but the group appears to not move and stay in their formation. It is not illegal for cyclists to travel in the vehicle lane.

After honking his horn again, Mr Dennis decides to overtake the group once the road widens.

“You guys are deadest f***ing imbeciles aren’t you?” he says to the cyclists as he overtakes.

The group then tell him it’s a 30km/h road.

“Mate, get in the f***ing cycling lane you imbecile,” he yells back.

Mr Dennis later told the Gold Coast Bulletin he was actually travelling below the speed limit and the group were going slower.

He said he sees cyclists taking up the vehicle lane “two or three times a week”.

The Gold Coast City Council in 2015 reduced the speed limit to 30km/h in an effort to deter commuters from using the street to avoid peak hour traffic.
