Tradies tackle driver after he leads police in wild pursuit in 'stolen' car
A man has been charged after two tradies tackled and helped arrest him during a dangerous pursuit in a stolen vehicle across Brisbane’s southside, police allege.
A home on Harcourt Street at New Farm was broken into yesterday, and two vehicles were allegedly stolen.
The owner used an app to connect to an IPad left inside one of the cars and was able to advise police of the vehicle’s whereabouts in Wynnum West, around 9.30am on Wednesday morning.
Footage from the police Polair chopper shows the dark Volkswagen Golf being driven dangerously across the city, reaching speeds of more than 100km/h along Musgrave Road through Coopers Plains and running several red lights, before entering the Clem 7 tunnel.
The car then exited at Bowen Hills and continued through Herston, at times travelling on the wrong side of the road, before heading over the William Jolly Bridge into South Brisbane, police said.
The vehicle continued through Woolloongabba where it allegedly crashed into a number of parked cars at the intersection of Logan Road and Deshon Street, trapping a 52-year-old woman inside one of the cars, causing minor injuries.
The driver fled the vehicle on foot and allegedly assaulted a female bystander, as he ran from the scene.
A number of witnesses chased the man before two construction workers were able to catch and detain the man on a nearby worksite until police arrived.
A 21-year-old Murrarie man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, burglary and fraud.
He is expected to appear in court on Thursday..
The two women were transported to the Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
