Police look for links in 'bizarre' spate of car shootings in South East Queensland

Queensland police are investigating if a number of shootings within a day in South East Queensland are linked.

Shots were fired at three cars and a gym in a 24 hour period from Thursday morning.

"It is bizarre. It's completely out of the ordinary. This doesn't take place, well, anywhere in Australia for that matter," Detective Superintendent Kerry Johnson said.

One of those incidents was on the Pacific Motorway at Coomera at about 8.30pm on Thursday night.

Initial investigations suggest two shots were fired at a 56-year-old's man's car from another moving car while he was driving along the southbound lanes.

The driver was not injured.

In another incident, police say a car received what is believed to be gunshot damage to the outside panelling while parked in the driveway of a Maudsland home on Thursday morning between approximately 1.45am and 2.30am.

That car was unoccupied at the time.

A Jetts gym in the same area also may have been targetted at about the same time.

"Those two incidents we're not saying are separated, they may in fact be the one event, where a round may have gone astray because there is a bit of a line of sight between those two locations," said Detective Superintendent, Kerry Johnson.

At 3.30am, also on Thursday morning, a man was driving northbound on the Pacific Motorway at Rochedale when he heard something hit his ute.

He saw the driver of a car pointing what he believed was a firearm towards him and heard another object hit his ute before the car left the highway.

The 30 year old wasn't injured but police say there were two bullet holes in his ute.

"There is no links at this stage between any of these persons, these victims, with any organised crime, drug related, bikie related or otherwise," Detective Superintendent Kerry Johnson said .

"They appear to be just members of our society going about their business who have been fired upon by a person or persons in a vehicle with a firearm."

Police are urging anyone with information or footage which may help with the investigations to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
