'Loo with a view:' the Gold Coast's best vantage point

Ever sat on the toilet and wished you had a more scenic outlook?

Well, a group of tradies on the Gold Coast get to enjoy one of the best views of the glitter strip from the comfort of a sky-high portaloo.

The ‘loo with a view’ is perched on the edge of a construction site 39 storeys above Surfers Paradise.

Site manager, Darrick Poletto, said the toilet’s location serves a practical purpose…beyond the obvious.

“The climbers take so long to come up and down, about half an hour each direction,” Mr Poletto said.

“So if someone has got to go to the toilet it’s a lot of time and money.

“We came up with the idea of the loo with a view.”

The toilet sits around nine-metres off the side of the building, which is a necessity given it's used by 16 men and only emptied once a fortnight.

“We were just trying to put it in a little non-offending corner basically,” Mr Poletto said.

“And plus the smell factor probably!”

Tradie Andy Wright said the loo had ‘gone down’ well with the workers.

"You couldn't work in a better place I don't think," he said.

“Best view on the Gold Coast, best job on the Gold Coast actually."

But he also admitted there were some downsides to the dunny.

“Because the toilets on the end it sort of catches the wind,” he said.

“It gets a bit airy… it’s like being on a 747.”

The $9 million renovation of Surfers Aquarias is expected to be completed next year.
