Woman accused of stabbing man she met on Tinder

A Brisbane woman accused of stabbing a man she met on Tinder while on a date has been granted bail.

Alana Jones, 24, faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning charged with assault and possessing a dangerous drug.

Police allege the victim, 30, and defendant got together at her Bowen Hills unit on Friday night after meeting on Tinder.

They had sex and he fell asleep on the floor, the court was told.

Police alleged the man woke up about 11:30pm with the defendant standing over him.

"(He said) she'd gone crazy," the police prosecutor told the court.

"The defendant stood over the top and started slashing and tried to stab him. He used his forearm to defend himself, leaving a deep (laceration).

"This was an out-of-the-blue attack."

When police arrived at the scene they found the man with a cut to the arm, and he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The woman is a single mother whose toddler was not home at the time, and has no criminal history, the court heard.

Clear case for self-defence: defence lawyer

Her defence lawyer told the court the case showed "clear and strong issues of self-defence".

"The complainant received a phone call from his de-facto partner trying to find out where he was," the lawyer said.

"His partner had arranged to come around to the defendant's house and pick him up.

"I don't want to get into specifics, but there's a clear case for self-defence."

Magistrate Christine Roney granted bail on the condition Jones refrain from using Tinder and Facebook, despite her not using Facebook to meet people.

"But it might arise," Magistrates Roney said

"I'm trying to head something off. I don’t want this incident discussed on social media."

Jones is due to face court again on March 27.
