Woman claims rodent was inside supermarket rice paper roll

A Gold Coast woman claims she bit into a rice paper roll from a Woolworths supermarket at Broadbeach on Sunday, only to discover she's swallowed part of a what's thought to be a baby rat.

"I was horrified, disgusted and I was shocked, and I'm still I think in shock," said Irena Petrusic.

"I saw in the salad bit a tail first and some wet fur and then nothing, I didn't look any more I threw it."

Her daughter Emilie picked it up and says she found the rodent inside.

"Obviously I was in a state ... to see your mother like that," Emilie Petrusic said.

Irena says she had put sauce on the top and didn't notice anything strange.

"I'm feeling really nauseous all the time. I'm not sleeping at night, I don't know what it is, I do think about that every time food comes along," said Irena.

Emilie says she too has only just been able to start eating again since the alleged ordeal.

The Gold Coast council is now investigating the claims a dead rodent had ended up inside a rice paper roll sold at the Broadbeach shop.

But the supermarket has received advice from Queensland Health and council investigators suggesting it is not to blame.

"Our investigations will continue but ... we have no reason to believe the contamination happened in our store," the company told News Limited in a statement.

The supermarket provided a refund to Irena, who is now waiting for results from blood tests.

"This ordeal should not happen to anyone. It's disgusting," said Irena.

A representative from Queensland Health says, "We've sent the samples off to Brisbane because there is debate at the moment as to whether the contaminate was in the preparations or perhaps a disgruntled employee or perhaps the complainant themselves."
