McDonald's home delivery plans

First it was "dine-in", then "drive-thru", now there's delivery.

"I'd love it, can't wait for it to start, it means you can invite your friends over, have a few drinks and call McDonald's for dinner!" said one diner.

McDonald's Albany Creek will be the first Brisbane restaurant to offer home delivery next month.

34 stores across the city will join the trial.

In Hervey Bay burger fans have been dialing for dinner since August.

"It was fast, it came in a heated pack, it was just like you bought it straight from a McDonald's store counter," said Hervey Bay customer, Allen Taylor.

The minimum order is $25, plus $4.95 delivery fee.

It's due to be available from five until nine pm.

But the initiative isn't popular with health experts.

"They're making mostly unhealthy foods more accessible to the public. We have a major obesity problem in Queensland, we have four of the five top obese regions in the country," said Rachelle Foreman from the Heart Foundation.

A spokesperson for McDonald's says Brisbane was chosen for the first large trial because of customer feedback and demand.

If it's successful the service will be rolled out nationwide.

"We would certainly hope people choose health over convenience," said Rachelle Foreman.

A Brisbane based health food provider, Liquefy will soon be delivering both.

"People will be able to get on-line, order our juice do cleanse programs and order dried food that we produce right here at Mount Gravatt," said David Dowd from Liquefy.

But some palettes might take a little longer to persuade.
