Putin planning for war with Baltic states – the only question is when

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is preparing for war against the Baltic states, the Financial Times reported, citing a senior Ukrainian official saying that Kyiv had “strong intelligence” that Putin was making preparations for war against the Baltic states.

"Putin simply cannot stop," the publication quoted an unnamed official as saying.

Russia intended to double the number of its troops stationed along its border with the Baltic states and Finland, a move that could foreshadow a potential military conflict with NATO in the next decade, Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service said on Tuesday.

“Putin does everything he says he will.” said Christoph Heusgen, head of the Munich Security Conference.

“The only thing that can stop him is a policy of strength.”

Russia is preparing for military confrontation with the West over the next decade, and only a buildup of armed forces could potentially deter it, Estonian intelligence warned on Feb. 13.

Russia has the capacity to produce enough military equipment and mobilize sufficient troops to offset its losses in its war on Ukraine, the group added.

Russia may try to attack Europe in late 2024 or early 2025, when the United States will be "leaderless" after the 2024 election, likely delaying any American aid to Europe, reported German newspaper Bild, citing its own sources in the intelligence of a European country.

Civilians in the West should prepare for an "all-out war" with Russia, reported NATO’s Military Committee Chair, Admiral Rob Bauer.

Europe is again "facing a military threat that has not been seen for 30 years," warned German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, adding that a Russian attack on Europe could be within five to eight years.
