Premier shares tragic family update
NSW Premier Chris Minns has announced his father has died at the age of 72.
John Minns recently suffered a massive heart attack and was placed in an induced coma at St George Hospital in Sydney.
“This afternoon we lost our dad, John Minns,” the Premier said in a brief statement posted to social media on Wednesday.
“To the end, he was surrounded by love and family, with his wife and children by his side.
“We thank the NSW paramedics and all the nurses and doctors at St George Hospital, who gave our dad great care this week.
“We have also been very moved by all the messages of support over the last few days.”
Jim Minns also posted about his father’s death, quoting the Premier’s X post and adding: “The best Dad.”
The Premier is understood to have been very close with his father, a veteran NSW public school teacher and principal.
During his campaign launch last year, Mr Minns said it he had the “honour of watching my dad build a successful life for himself”.
“(He built) a loving home for our family during a 40-year career as NSW public school teacher,” Mr Minns said.
In his maiden speech to parliament, Mr Minns said his father had introduced him to the “Labor tribe”.
In August 2022, Mr Minns’ posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, that “for people like my Dad, teaching was more than just a job, it was a vocation”.
