Man in his 50s set to buy first house and new car after $30 million Powerball win

A Victorian man in his 50s who has never owned a home or a new car has won $30 million in Powerball.

The blue-collar worker from Bendigo was on Friday told he'd won the division-one prize.

"I've never been a rich man and have worked hard all my life, so this is going to make a huge difference," he told Tatts officials.

"Other than my wedding day, this is the best day of my life."

The man, who wanted his identity to remain private, said he has used the same "lucky" numbers for years.

"I might retire and go round Australia. We'll have to buy a new car too. I've never owned a new car," he said.

"We rent so I'd love to own my own house. I was going to buy a house with my super when I retired, but now I can finally buy my first home."
