Man found dead on side of Sunshine Coast road 'may have been sleeping'

Police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old man who was found dead on the side of the road in the Sunshine Coast hinterland on Wednesday.

Police have said it is possible the man may have been asleep when he was hit.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the man may have fallen asleep close to the road and may have been struck by a passing vehicle, with the driver possibly unaware they struck the man,” Queensland Police said.

Police were called to the scene at around 4am on Wednesday by a passing motorist who spotted the body.

The death happened on Eumandi-Kenilworth Road, near the intersection of Sam Kelly Road, Gheerulla.
