Police are investigating a bizarre incident after a man reported being stabbed in the hand and neck as he slept in a tent in Sydney’s west.

A 33-year-old man suffering stab wounds presented himself to Hawkesbury Hospital around 6.30am on Thursday, NSW Police said in a statement.

He was treated for non-life threatening injuries by hospital staff, who called police.

Police were told that the man was asleep in a tent on Terrace Road, Windsor when he was stabbed by an unknown person.

The incident is being investigated by NSW Police and a crime scene has been established.
