Police officer's surprise stunt at beach rave: 'Welcome to Australia'

The officer has received praise online for his 'positive interactions'.

In an unusual turn of events, an Australian police officer is going viral for taking over the decks at a beach rave.

The male officer, decked out in his full NSW Police uniform, is filmed in a tent full of partying people while standing in front of the DJ decks, headphones on and all.

It's understood the rave was held on Sydney's Northern Beaches at Turimetta Beach, with claims online the gathering was not permitted. Yahoo News Australia has contacted NSW Police who said they're "aware of a video" of an officer "engaging with the community at an event on the Northern Beaches.

"Officers patrolling in the area attended and did their best to ensure the safety of everyone at the event," a spokesperson said.

Two videos of the officer have garnered more than 300k views, with many in disbelief over the strange turn of events. "Welcome to Australia where the police get on the DJ decks instead of shutting the party down," one video was captioned.

NSW Police respond on TikTok

NSW Police's official TikTok account has since responded in the comments to both videos, seemingly appreciating the "vibes" and saying the video will definitely be "going viral".

Reactions have been overwhelmingly positive from the public, with many applauding the officer for "engaging with the community".

"It’s refreshing to see police having positive interactions with the public…99% of cops are good people that get so much sh*t for no reason!" one person responded.

"I hope he doesn’t get in trouble for this, good on him," another said.

One person who says they were at the party claimed that the cops "let the party keep going until at least sunrise".

Some suggested if the rave was in other parts of Sydney, officers may have not been as lenient as alleged.

"If this was in western Sydney there’d be tear gas," one person claimed.
