Police investigating fatal stabbing of a woman at Mississauga hotel
Peel Regional Police say a woman in her 50s was found dead on Monday morning in a Mississauga hotel room.
At a news conference Monday afternoon, Const. Richard Chin said police and emergency medical services were called to a Studio 6 hotel on Britannia Road East and Whittle Road around 9:30 a.m. after someone reported a stabbing.
The victim was pronounced dead by EMS and now the homicide unit is investigating her death. This is Peel Region's twelfth homicide this year, the public information officer said.
"The victim and the suspect are known to each other," Const. Chin told reporters. "I can't disclose how they are related to each other, but I can confirm that this is not what we would consider an intimate partner relationship."

He says police are not exactly sure what happened leading up to the stabbing as detectives are still early in their investigation but added that "at this point, out of respect for the victim, we're not going to be disclosing what that person was doing in that room."
He said the male suspect hasn't been caught and encouraged anyone with information to contact police.
Const. Chin said the stabbing is believed to be an isolated incident and was not connected to a Brampton homicide that happened on Saturday.
