'Please take care of Sky': Dog found with heartbreaking note about owner

A dog has been found with a heartbreaking note attached to her collar at an animal shelter.

Sky, a six-year-old pooch, was found at the Delware Humane Association’s shelter in the US on Thursday.

“This blue and white chocolate dipped girl was roaming freely with an incredibly oversized, spiked leather harness with a bag attached and a note inside,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

The note asks the shelter to “please take care of Sky”.

“She is six years old and friendly,” the note reads.

“I couldn’t take care of her, I became homeless and couldn’t feed her. She is not sick just hungry, very friendly. Please find her a home. Please.”

The shelter added its volunteers are “just thankful this sweetheart made it to us before it was too late”.

“We can’t imagine this was easy for her former owner, so please refrain from expressing any negative thoughts you may have,” the shelter wrote.

“The most important thing is, she is safe with us.”

The post has been shared more than 340 times as the shelter appealed for donations to look after the pooch and hopefully re-home her.

Facebook users were saddened by the circumstances leading to the dog ending up in the shelter.

“I can’t fathom the desperation and despair her owner was in to leave this sweet pup,” one user wrote.

“My heart goes out to them.”

Another added the person who brought the dog to the shelter “did it out of love”.

“They knew Sky would be able to have a better life,” the user wrote.

“I pray the owner has a better life in the future too.”

Delaware Humane Association wrote on Saturday Sky was enjoying “lots of love and attention”.

The dog is yet to find a home.
