A pet dog has been hailed a hero for saving his owner’s young daughter from a tiger snake in Victoria.
Boxer Mack was left fighting for life after he was bitten several times in an attempt to protect two-and-a-half year-old Carmen, who was playing in the family’s Tarneit backyard.
The brave four-year-old boxer killed the tiger snake in the December 8 attack, but was seriously injured in the process.
His family has now set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise $6000 to cover his vet bills.
“This has broken our lil’ family's hearts and many tears are being shed as he has touched a lot of people's hearts as he is so friendly and playful to all,” Mack’s owner Jo Hall said.
“He is our world and a massive part of our family.
“Four years ago we got Mack as a pup when we lost our twins and he has been our rock ever since.”
Mack was frothing at the mouth when Mrs Shaw ran out to him, and he suffered kidney damage from the snake’s venom.
Already, the family has raised more than $3000 with Mack showing signs of improvement.
“(Mack) is still very weak and is wagging his tail again but even that is exhausting for him at the moment,” Mrs Shaw said in an update on the fundraising page.
“It's going to be a long road to full recovery.”
Mrs Shaw thanked the community for their support and said she was hopeful of taking her boy home by the end of the week.
“We can't lose him to this.”
