Single mum ditches costly house and moves family into bus bought on Gumtree

A single mother sick of rising housing costs has instead bought a converted bus on Gumtree and now lives in a caravan park.

Tegan Latham, from Perth, said she found renting too restrictive and found herself anxious over expenses on her single income.

Her father suggested she move herself and two young sons into a converted bus and she managed to find one online for $28,000.

She then spent a further $7000 renovating the vehicle, which now has a full size fridge, washing machine, bedroom and living area.

"I just save up a bit over time and do the next project when I'm ready to, so it's been very affordable for me," she told Today Tonight.

"It kind of feels like you're on holiday most of the time."

The small family moved into a caravan park near the boys' school, but hope to find a more permanent block of land in the future.

"My hope is to find some land that I could be paying even less, supplying my own power," she said.

But for the moment, Ms Latham said her sons are loving living near the beach and in a park with a community pool.

"Ollie just said the other day, 'I like the house mum but I really love the bus'," she said.

Before finding a piece of land to permanently park on, Ms Latham said she plans to drive the bus around Australia as a family holiday.
