Aussie mum stuck in Bali ICU facing $100k in medical bills: 'Nightmare'

Kristy Reyment, 45, was enjoying a family holiday in Bali when she contracted pneumonia.

A Perth mum has been admitted to ICU in a Bali hospital, with her partner and children left to scramble for accommodation and seek advice from their travel insurer as costs continue to mount.

The family holiday turned into a "complete nightmare" on Sunday morning when Kristy Reyment, 45, contracted pneumonia, which promptly led to respiratory failure.

"There is also a mass on her lung which needs investigation ... at this stage we still have no idea when we will be heading home," her partner Steven wrote online.

"She's been so strong and brave especially considering some of the things she's had to go through is very scary or painful, sometimes both."

The family were set to return to Australia on Monday morning, however, have been left in limbo with Kristy set to be in hospital for the foreseeable future with no current assistance from their travel insurer.

"I have travel insurance but they are being a pain in the ass to be honest ... I did think at the time I purchased a good one, and it's meant to have unlimited medical cost cover and expenses," he said.

Steven shared they have received "no word" from the travel insurer and admitted the family have had to "pay as we go upfront".

Hospital estimates up to $100,000 in medical bills

While doctors continue to investigate Kristy's condition in an attempt to offer her more specific treatment, hospital staff have shared the care could cost the family between $80,000-$100,000, forcing Steven to ask for help from loved ones.

"It kills me to ask that as I'm a proud man and I feel like I'm letting my family down, but at this stage any little bit helps," he said.

During the uncertain times, Steven commended his children who have been "amazing" and "patient" during the entire ordeal. "I just want to get my beautiful wife home as soon as possible."
