'Absolutely revolted': Mum's warning after nasty surprise in daughter's snack

A Perth mother has found a nasty surprise in her daughter’s bag of snacks.

The mother posted images of a bag of Messy Monkeys Burger Flavoured Whole Grain Bites on a local Facebook page on Wednesday with a ball of what appears to be hair inside the bag.

“Reminder to everyone to always check the food you’re about to give your children,” she posted along with several photos.

“Just opened this pack of Messy Monkeys for my daughter and saw a wad of what looks to be white/blonde hair sitting in the packet. Absolutely revolted by it.”

The woman also stated she had sent the images to the manufacturer of the snack, Freedom Foods.

“That’s foul, thank god you found it,” one person responded to the image.

“I usually tip everything into a bowl for my kids, I never give the packet to my kids for these reasons,” another social media user added.

“Taking natural ingredients a bit too far!” a third said.

One of the responders suggested it may be strands of dried glue from the packaging, but the mother responded with assurance that it was hair.

“It’s got roots on the end of it,” she said.

The mother updated the post with a message response from Freedom Foods.

The company seemed just as horrified by the hairball and said they would investigate the matter using the best before date stamp.

“We are very concerned to see this and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to investigate,” a representative wrote.

Freedom Foods asked the mother for her contact details so they could get in touch with her personally.

“Please know that we take pride in having extremely strict quality standards and this is concerning for us to see,” the company wrote.

A Freedom Foods spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia they were on the case of the mystery additive.

“At this stage [it’s] unclear as to the source of the fibre. We are in the process of liaising with the customer and collecting the sample for further investigations,” a spokesperson from Freedom Foods said.
