The Percy Jackson TV reboot, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has broken a major record for Disney.

As reported by TVLine, the latest adaptation of Rick Riordan's fantasy books has set the bar for the biggest premiere for any show under the Disney Branded Television label.

The publication reports that the series racked up 13.3 million views across Disney+ and the Disney-owned sister streamer Hulu (which isn't available in the UK), with a view counting as time streamed divided by length of content.

Meanwhile, Disney Branded Television covers content released by Disney that comes under the House of Mouse's main branding. That means anything that isn't Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic etc.

If you do factor in content from these other brands, then Star Wars spin-off Ahsoka did achieve better numbers earlier this year, with a premiere of 14 million views.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars The Adam Project's Walker Scobell, Will and Grace's Megan Mullally, Die Another Day's Toby Stephens, Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and the legendary Lance Reddick in his last role before his sad death earlier this year.

Compared to the previous film adaptation, which received a mixed reception, professional critics have been really impressed with this new version.

It currently stands at near-perfect 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, from 53 reviews. The critical consensus seems to be that the show captures both the world and the spirit of the three original books, while the main cast members have been highly praised for the authentic chemistry they share between them.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered last week on Disney+ and is currently dropping new episodes weekly.
