Parents create adorable restaurant for kids during coronavirus lockdown

Parents of two young boys have staged an adorable at-home restaurant to give the kids a luxurious experience during the coronavirus outbreak which has forced the closure of most eateries.

Callum and Clair-Marie Macaulay, from Glasgow in the UK, filmed as they welcomed their own children into “Mummy and Daddy’s” restaurant and provided a five star experience to their sons Evan, 5, and Lucas, 2.

The video, shared to Facebook by Mr and Mrs Macaulay, showed the boys dressed in smart clothes arriving excitedly at the front door and being walked to their seat by their mum, who played their “waitress”.

They were presented with a printed out menu each and given time to decide what they would like to drink, before later placing their meal order.

The parents made sure to give the boys premium treatment, not questioning any of their menu choices, even when they both requested they be served two drinks each.

Mr Macaulay, who worked as the “head chef”, even donned a chef’s hat and white uniform when serving the children, who exhibited perfect table manners throughout their dining experience.

Both kids opted for “cheesy nachos” for their starter, then a quesadilla for their main meal, with Evan choosing ice cream for dessert and Lucas going for an ice pop.

After polishing off their main course, Evan asked for the bill and it was delivered on a small dish with some complimentary lollies.

Before he could assess the damage, Mrs Macaulay picked it up and ripped it in half, explaining that “dinner is on Mum and Dad tonight so you don’t have to pay a penny”.

The heartwarming video drew praise from more than 17,000 people after being shared on Sunday (local time) last week, with some social media users admitting they teared up watching it unfold.

“This is so beautiful it made me cry. What gorgeous well mannered boys,” one person wrote in a comment.

“So adorable. Amazing how mom and dad were able to make a meal so special and memorable,” another said.

The widespread attention was the last thing the parents expected, with Mr Macaulay later adding a comment saying the makeshift restaurant was a simple idea designed to make his kids smile.

“Thanks everyone for the nice comments. It was only supposed to put a smile on the wee ones faces, the fact it’s made such an impact is a big bonus. Stay safe,” he wrote.
