One dead as two escape house fire

One man has died and two others have managed to escape after a blaze broke out at a home in Victoria overnight.

Emergency services were called to Diana St in Apollo Bay, a coastal town southwest of Melbourne, about 12.30am on Saturday.

Fire crews worked to save a 40-year-old man after he was pulled from the property, but he was unable to be revived.

According to Victoria Police, two men who present in the home were able to evacuate and were treated by paramedics.

A police spokesman said detectives had established a crime scene and were working to establish the cause of the fire.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal house fire which occurred in Apollo Bay early this morning,” he said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
