Chinese tourist faces court over botched surgery at Sydney beauty salon

A woman charged over a botched breast implant procedure that has left a patient fighting for life is on a tourist visa from China and is not medically registered in Australia.

On Thursday she faced Sydney's Central Local Court accused of recklessly causing harm by administering a poisonous substance.

For 35-year-old Jean Huang, a day procedure in the name of beauty has almost cost her life.

The owner of the Chippendale beauty clinic went into cardiac arrest after a dodgy breast enhancement.

The police prosecutor said the woman had admitted to administering local anaesthetic and breast fillers.

During her bail application the court heard the woman had studied in China, but had no qualifications in Australia.

She had studied at the Guangdong Medical University, specialising in dermatology, and had worked in Great Britain and China.

"Do your homework, make sure the surgeon is qualified, make sure the facility is accredited and licensed," cosmetic and plastic surgeon professor Anand Deva said.

Police say if Jean Huang does not pull through, more serious charges will be laid.

She is currently in critical condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital surrounded by family.
