Parolee raped teen on way home from prison, could be free in two years

A convicted sex offender who raped a teenage girl within hours of being let out of jail could be back on the streets in less than two years.

Arthur Allibrand was captured by security cameras at a bottle shop last year, buying alcohol for a 16-year-old girl he had just met.

He later raped the teenage girl - all within hours of being released from jail.

On Friday the serial offender was sentenced to four years and six months behind bars, but he only has to serve a minimum of two years and 11 months.

"I'm really disappointed by this sentence, because what it does is actually put the public at risk," victim's advocate Howard Brown said.

When he was arrested, all Alliband could do was smile.

"These are all aggravating features, these are all things the judge should have taken into account," Mr Brown said.

Alliband previously served 18 months prison for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

While he was behind bars he did not receive any rehabilitation.

"What I was most concerned about is that the judge felt that the offender had been hard done by by corrective services," Mr Brown said.

But corrective services suggested the blame lay with the courts, saying in a statement that the offender "did not have sufficient time post-sentencing and pre-release to participate in these programs."

Arthur Alliband is currently eligible for release on the May 30, 2019, but on Friday evening it was announced the New South Wales Attorney will intervene in the case, asking the Director of Public Prosecutions to review the sentence handed down.

That decision may take months to finalise.
