Millionaire drink driver caught six times over limit gets jail sentence

A Sydney executive who blew six times over the legal limit, and was captured on CCTV staggering out of his damaged BMW, has been granted bail in Sydney.

Matthew Duncan was sentenced to eight months jail at a court on Wednesday, but immediately appealed and applied for bail.

The former CEO of luxury car retailer Trivette Automotive Group will be released on Wednesday afternoon ahead of a future court date.

The drink driver struggled to maintain his balance before police arrived.

Police said that Mr Duncan had a blood alcohol reading of 0.342 when he was pulled over in front of his Woolloomooloo home in November, which may give some explanation as to why he was seen stumbling all over the road.

CCTV footage captured Mr Duncan climbing out of his car, before stumbling, trying to steady himself and falling to the ground.

Matthew Duncan initially told police he was not the driver of the car, but CCTV footage proved that was not the case.

His damaged luxury car had been stopped in the middle of the road.

Mr Duncan initially told police he was not the driver and refused a breath-test but police reviewed the security video and spoke to witnesses confirming that he was the driver.

He was charged with high-range drink driving and his licence was suspended on the spot.
