Woman fights for life after being struck on footpath

A woman is fighting for life after being run over on a footpath in Sydney’s North Shore.

Heather Croxon suffered critical injuries to her head and limbs after the driver of a Toyota Camry suffered an apparent medical episode and lost control in Chatswood on Friday morning.

“She just flew about 10 metres and just dropped,” one witness said.

“She wasn’t moving.”

Another woman, who was pushing a pram at the time, was lucky to escape injury with her young daughter taken to a nearby medical centre as a precaution.

“It was a very close call for the car glancing the pram,” Chatswood Police chief inspector Mark Pluss said.

A number of police officers were inside a café just a few doors down from the Victoria Avenue scene getting coffee when the crash happened.

They gave assistance in front of the Westfield Chatswood before Ms Croxon, aged in her 30s, was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital.

The 67-year-old driver Fredrick Millard had to be freed from the wreckage, but was uninjured.

He was taken for mandatory blood and urine testing and later released from hospital.
