Driver's lucky escape caught on camera as truck drags car across highway

A driver is lucky to be alive after a truck crashed into his car at high-speed and dragged it across two lanes of traffic, on a busy Sydney highway.

Dash cam footage has captured the unbelievable moment a truck cleaned up the red sedan, which was travelling in a lane to its left on the M4, near Blacktown.

The prime mover merged left into the same lane as the car, which appeared to be in the truck's blind spot.

The sedan spun out to the front of the truck and was pushed sideways along the motorway, across two lanes of traffic. About 15 seconds later both vehicles came to a stop on the side of the road.

The video, recorded on Friday at 5.45pm, has already been viewed more than 208,000 times since it was shared to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page on Saturday.

The footage is causing a stir online, with Facebook users blaming the sedan driver for being in the truck's way.

"The truck driver did well to steer the whole mess off to the left," one commented.

Another added that the truckie was only correcting "the mess he created."

"I never, never, never just sit beside a truck on a multi-lane road. Never. I either sit back or if I need to pass him I just pass him and get in front," added another on the Facebook page.

"I get it's the truckies fault, but some car drivers just don't think."

Others came to the car driver's defence.

"Why are so many people blaming the car driver? Firstly there was no reason for the truck driver to be in the right lane as he was passing no one.

"Secondly he needs to install additional mirrors to see drivers in his blind spot, thirdly the excuse of 'they were in my blind spot' has never won in court so get a new excuse," one commented.

One other wrote the truck driver put the car into its blind spot by driving in the overtaking lane.

"It's not the car's responsibility to get out of the truck's blind spot if he/she is being over taken. It's the truck drivers fault," they said.
