He assisted police with inquiries before getting in an ambulance with his injured mate.

His gig at the Metro theatre was cancelled leaving fans, who had travelled from interstate and lined up for hours, in tears.

"I've always wanted to see him live and he's such an inspiration to me and he's my role model and I really hope he's okay," one fan told 7 News.

The two men injured had been standing at the back of the van.

Two people with severe leg injuries have been taken to St Vincent's Hospital and a third person has been taken to Sydney Hospital in a stable condition.

It is not yet known whether Iero and his bandmates will continue their Australian tour.
