Sydney man charged with terrorism offences after rifles, explosive device found in vehicle
A man from Sydney's inner west has been charged with terrorism offences after police found weapons and explosive devices in his car in February.
Police were called to Hill Street in South Strathfield around 11am on Saturday February 27 on reports of a suspicious vehicle, NSW Police said in a statement.
Police from the Flemington Local Area Command found two rifles and an improvised explosive device following a search of the vehicle.
The bomb squad was called and the device safely removed the vehicle, which was later found to have been stolen from Chullora.
A counter terrorism investigation led to the arrest of a 41-year-old Strathfield man on Tuesday.
He was served a Firearms Prohibition Order and a Weapons Prohibition Order and taken to Burwood Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of possess unauthorised firearms, possession, supply, or making explosives; and carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was refused bail and due to appear in court Wednesday.
