Staff member suspended from NSW school over alleged relations with students

A female staff member from a school in northern NSW has been suspended following allegations of inappropriate relations with a number of students.

Administrators a the Armidale School, which is part of the Greater Public Schools [GPS] association, suspended the non-teaching staff member after they became aware of the allegations in September.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating a staff member at the school.

While the independent Anglican boarding and day school found out about the allegations on September 4, parents were not informed until the start of the school term in October.

Headmaster Murray Guest, who is believed to have been away from the school when the allegations were raised, wrote to parents earlier this month.

"I'm writing in response to speculation in our community about a current situation we are working to resolve," he wrote in a letter seen by Fairfax Media.

"We immediately informed the relevant authorities, and suspended the staff member concerned while the matter can be fully investigated."

All parties with a direct interest in the allegations were also notified.

"While we value open lines of communication between parents, students and [The Armidale School], in this instance confidentiality is important and we value your support."

A spokesman told the newspaper that the delay in notifying parents was on the advice of authorities.

The school which charges students up to $27,000 a year, was an all-boys school until the start of term four, when it allowed girls to enroll for the first time.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
