Jon Stevens believed to have hit elderly man with his car

Rock star Jon Stevens is believed to have been the driver of a car which hit an elderly man at Point Piper.

The 69-year-old man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he is in a stable condition. The man may be released tonight.

It is understood that Stevens got out of the car to help the man. The former Noiseworks rocker has been questioned by police and released, pending further inquiries.

The accident occurred within walking distance of the apartment of Steven's ex-fiancee Jodhi Meares.

It was only late last month that a lawyer for the Aussie rocker said Stevens could get on with his life after assault charges involving Meares were dropped.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Nicole Arnold formally dropped the common assault and domestic-related assault charges in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court.

Prosecutors also withdrew an AVO application brought on behalf of Meares, a former model and swimsuit designer who shot to fame in 1999 when she married billionaire James Packer.

Solicitor Greg Goold said the charges had taken a personal and financial toll on the Noiseworks frontman, who has blamed it for the break-up of his engagement to Meares.

Stevens was charged in February with common assault by Rose Bay police after they were called to the couple's luxury Point Piper unit in the early hours.
