Driver abandons injured mate in crash

A man who allegedly crashed into a tree during a serious accident left his injured friend in the mangled vehicle.

The car went off the road in Sydney's inner West shortly before 2am this morning.

News Limited reports that police believe the man was driving drunk when involved in the high speed accident.

Police were called to Leicester Avenue, Strathfield to find a crashed Chrysler sedan.

A 24-year-old was treated at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle in the accident.

He is in Royal Prince Alfred hospital with multiple injuries and will have surgery.

According to police, he was the only person at the scene when they arrived.

The 28-year-old alleged driver from Mortlake presented to Burwood Police Station at 5am this morning and was taken to hospital.

He was treated for facial injuries and police are still waiting to interview him regarding the crash.
