Young Liberals slammed as 'spoilt little rich kids' over Streets ice cream stunt

A pair of Young Liberals have been slammed online as "spoilt rich kids" after being photographed eating a Streets ice cream amid the boycott.

On Sunday, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union launched a "Streets Free Summer" campaign to fight a potential 46 per cent pay cut for workers at the company.

The campaign was created to try and protect the rights of 140 workers at the Minto factory.

On Thursday, the photo of the Young Liberals enjoying a Streets Cornetto at Sydney’s Circular Quay was uploaded to Facebook.

"Quick #cornettocaucus to support Streets Ice Cream. Nothing wrong with Australian jobs and investment. #reverseboycott #oneicecreamatatime," the photo was captioned.

Social media commenters were quick to criticise the move, calling the pair "spoilt" and "insensitive."

"Hope they decide to cut your pay by 46% one day. Smug," Justin Willey wrote on Facebook.

Ali Eaton said: "That's a total disgrace. Entitled and no idea what those workers are facing."

The Streets boycott was aimed to mirror the 2016 push to avoid products from beer giants Carlton and United Breweries where sales of popular beers such as VB and Carlton Draught suffered following an industrial dispute.

The widespread snub would see Streets' most popular ice-creams including Paddle Pop, Golden Gaytime and Magnum shunned.

"The only way to make this global corporation listen is to hit them where it hurts," AMWU secretary Steve Murphy told News Corp.

“This summer it is a choice between being on the side of workers in struggle or on the side of corporate greed.”
